This one hour lecture aims to be a comprehensive introduction to the basics of making maps in Stata. This introductory hands-on webinar is ideal for those who are learning, or interested in, spatial visualizations of data and would like to jump right in.
In this lecture, participants will go over different spatial data types (points, polylines, polygons), and discuss map projections. Participants will learn how to import shapefiles in Stata, and use Stata commands to make choropleth or heat maps. Other aspects like map customization, including adjusting color schemes, fonts, and legends will also be discussed.
At the end of this lecture, participants will have the know-how on how to independently produce basic maps. This lecture should also provide them with the ability to generate maps from their own data projects.
The webinar assumes that participants have basic knowledge, and familiarity with Stata commands. Data and replication files will be provided in an online repository.
This webinar is a precursor to the Maps in Stata Masterclass which will take place on the 18th - 19th January 2024. Click here to learn more about this course: Maps in Stata Masterclass
